Anchoring global offshore wind leadership in North East Scotland
Deepwater Wind Hub
The UK’s first hub for testing and commercialising deepwater wind technologies.
The UK needs up to 125 GW of offshore wind by 2050, with 20–40 GW expected to be floating. Deepwater sites at around 60–120 metres require innovative approaches — whether floating or hybrid — to deliver best value solutions.
The Deepwater Wind Hub is focused on reducing costs, increasing UK content, and enabling manufacturing and deployment through a wider range of ports and facilities. By targeting depths of 60–120 metres, hybrid substructures can complement floating and fixed designs, unlocking efficiencies and strengthening the UK supply chain.

Benefits for developers, innovators and the supply chain:
Lower costs and improved supply chain resilience, with hundreds of technologies reviewed, dozens digitally verified and a subset simulated with partners such as NDC and OREC
Support for UK manufacturing and infrastructure, including plans for up to three offshore test sites and over £100 million of funding secured for offshore testing
Acceleration of net zero and global competitiveness, with multiple technologies supported to commercialisation and companies accelerated in collaboration with TechX
