Highland Potential - Floating & Fixed Offshore Wind Review
Project Summary
The scope of work for this study was to prepare a concise position paper and presentation on the current status of the offshore wind market, covering economic analysis, technology status, resource and synergies between the oil and gas and offshore wind sectors.
Industry value:
By utilising offshore wind energy, there is a great opportunity to lower the costs of providing power to oil and gas facilities and decarbonising the production of hydrocarbons in the North Sea.
Lessons learned:
The use of floating and fixed offshore wind to power oil and gas facilities had not been an industry consideration when producing concept development plans at the time this study was performed. The Net Zero Technology Centre has examined alternative power sources for future developments and has created significant interest in operators across green and brown field developments.
