Manufacturing Technology Centre Visit

05 April 2017

One of the inspirations for such an organisation is the Catapult centres, of which there are 11 across the UK. These are centres of applied research focused upon UK industry needs and well-funded through government and industry, linked to local universities for example High Value Manufacturing and Precision Medicine.

Our visit to the Manufacturing Technology Centre on Wednesday 5 April was an opportunity to see how it benefits from being part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, established six years ago in 2011.

Mark Lappin, Director of University and Government Relations, travelled to Coventry with Nicola McIntosh and Andy Clucas as well as representatives from the senior management of the two local universities, Robert Gordon and Aberdeen.

“We had a good chance to talk to staff there to learn lessons for our own centre of excellence and a very impressive tour of their facility, featuring a small army of robots, additive manufacturing equipment and much more,” Mark said.

Visits like this are hugely informative and inspiring for the team at the OGTC.
