OGTC support Foundation Apprenticeships with new addition to the team

20 September 2019

L-R: James Gibb, IT Support Analyst; Connor Will, IT Intern

On Friday (20 September 2019), we welcomed Connor Will to the OGTC team!

Connor joins us from Westhill Academy and will work alongside colleague James Gibb, IT Support Analyst, one day a week for the next year to complete a Foundation Apprenticeship in Information Technology.

Nicola McIntosh, Finance and Commercial Director tells us a little more:

“Foundation Apprenticeships are revolutionising learning, adding value by bringing local employers and the young workforce of the future together. Gaining valuable work experience through vocation-based learning, combined with developing life skills such as communication, project ownership and other workplace responsibilities, gives young people the tools and confidence they need to prepare them for when they leave school. We look forward to having Connor as a part of the IT team, helping him develop into an experienced professional and having an extra pair of hands to assist with first line response. On successful completion of his apprenticeship he will be awarded a Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ).

“We are very excited about Connor coming onboard, as this is the first time the OGTC has participated in the programme. Connor will add a new dynamic to the team and I’m sure he will inspire us with a fresh approach, contributing to our desire to continuously improve the way we do things, especially with information technology!”

Connor gave us an insight into what he hopes to get out of the experience:

“I’ve never had any work experience, so joining a real organisation is a big deal in terms of learning how I can apply my IT skills to real life scenarios. It is particularly exciting joining the OGTC as technology is a key focus for them, and I’m particularly looking forward to learning about new platforms and applications that I’ve never even heard of until now, what they can do and how they are used in the workplace.”

Welcome to the team, Connor; we look forward to working with you!
