Industry gathers to mark next the launch of Technology Testing Hub

25 June 2026

Around 100 energy professionals gathered at Trinity Hall in Aberdeen on 23 June for the industry launch of the Net Zero Technology Centre’s (NZTC) new Technology Testing Hub.

The evening was hosted by CEO Myrtle Dawes and COO Rebecca Allison, who set out NZTC’s direction as it moves into a new phase focused on technology deployment and real-world testing, further strengthening Aberdeen’s position as leading global centre for the energy transition.

The Technology Testing Hub is designed to address a practical challenge: accelerating the journey from promising technology to proven, field-ready solution. Priority areas include wells, asset integrity, drones and robotics.

Speaking at the event, Rebecca Allison, COO said:

Aberdeen has the skills, the supply chain and the experience to move technology from ‘this could work’ to ‘this is actually working on an asset’ – and the Technology Testing Hub is designed to do exactly that, faster and with greater confidence than ever before.

Guests also heard about NZTC’s Innovation Alliance, a framework for working directly with industry to identify where technology can solve the problems companies are facing today.

Following the welcome addresses, attendees had the opportunity to visit four stations staffed by NZTC specialists across its key programme areas: wells, asset integrity, drones and robotics; innovation alliance and technology services; and TechX, now entering its ninth cohort.

The formal launch of the Technology Testing Hub is planned for later in the year, when a rig will once again be visible on the Aberdeen skyline. This event was an opportunity for industry to hear the full picture ahead of that milestone and to feed directly into what comes next.

NZTC is active, focused, open and ready to work. And we want to hear from you about what challenges we can support you with.
