The Net Zero Technology Centre (NZTC) has announced international business leader, Sarim Sheikh, has joined its board as an independent non-executive director.

Mr Sheikh has nearly three decades of international experience in the renewables and energy industry working in Europe, Latin America, Africa, and Asia with General Electric and Shell.

Recognised as a true leader, who has made outstanding contributions to international business growth, Sarim is a recipient of the GE Chairman’s Leadership Award. Under his leadership, Shell Pakistan Limited was awarded the Pakistan Stock Exchange’s “Top Companies Award” for corporate governance, financial performance, shareholder value, and sustainability.

Sarim has served as both chair and non-executive director on boards of several listed and non-listed companies, and government advisory boards, and is currently a non-executive director at Octopus Renewables Infrastructure Trust (ORIT).

In his new position on NZTC’s Board, Sarim will work with CEO Myrtle Dawes and Chair, Peter Mather, to support the overarching strategic trajectory of the Net Zero Technology Centre as the Centre continues to grow and diversify.

Commenting on his new position within the Centre, Sarim said: “I’ve been following the impressive evolution and growth of the Net Zero Technology Centre for some time and am excited to join the board as a non-executive director at this pivotal moment.

“While renewable energy growth has been unprecedented, traditional energy still powers much of the world. To deliver our net zero goals we need to recognise this intersection between old and new; to develop innovative technology solutions for decarbonisation while ensuring reliable, secure and affordable energy for all.”

Mrytle Dawes, CEO of the Net Zero Technology Centre, added: “We’re delighted to welcome Sarim to our board during such a significant phase for the Centre as we explore new opportunities to enable continued growth. Sarim’s expertise across international energy markets, and as an advocate for driving innovation and renewable technology development, is a strong addition to our board and will provide valuable guidance.”
