Technology Centre and Total scoop MER UK Award

03 November 2017

The Oil & Gas Technology Centre’s Asset Integrity Solution Centre, its members and Total won the Maximising Economic Recovery (MER) UK Award at last night’s Oil & Gas UK Awards.  The award was accepted by Rebecca Allison, Asset Integrity Solutions Centre Manager, and David Mackinnon, Head of Technology Innovation at Total E&P UK (TEPUK).

The MER UK prize was secured following collaboration between the Centre and TEPUK which enabled early field trials of non intrusive inspection technologies to take place on its Elgin PUQ platform. The aim of the project was to identify ways to reduce confined space entries and also reduce OPEX, which ultimately leads to maximising economic recovery.  Total and the Centre continue to work together on further field trials of new technologies on its offshore assets.

This MER UK award recognises those companies whose cooperative approach and positive behaviours have helped to maximise the economic recovery of oil and gas from the UKCS. BP and Commercial Behaviours Group were also shortlisted.

Rebecca Allison, said:

“We’re delighted to have won the award for our partnership with TEPUK and our members. A key part of our remit is to accelerate the deployment of new technology offshore and the field trials are a great example of that. We look forward to partnering with TEPUK on future projects to deliver a technology transformation for the UKCS.”

Elisabeth Proust, Managing Director of TEPUK, said:

“Total’s aim is to make sure that the North Sea remains safe, competitive and at the technological forefront of the global oil and gas industry, and I would like to thank all the individuals at both TEPUK and the OGTC for their work in this important project.”
