TechX Pioneers chosen to ‘unlock ambition’

29 June 2018

Today, three exciting tech start-ups from the Oil & Gas Technology Centre’s TechX Pioneer programme have been recognised amongst Scotland’s most talented entrepreneurs after securing places on the inaugural RSE Unlocking Ambition Enterprise Fellowship.

Paragon Inspection Ltd (Paragon), RAB Microfluidics and Specialist Safety Systems are three of 40 innovative, purpose-driven and highly ambitious entrepreneurs chosen for their individual potential, the quality of their ideas and the contribution their companies can make to the Scottish economy and wider society.

As part of the 12-month programme, the three Pioneers will each receive significant grant funding, tailored business development training, mentorship from established and successful entrepreneurs and business advisors, networking opportunities and peer-to-peer support.

The Pioneers are developing technologies that could transform the future of oil and gas:

Paragon

Integrated digital inspection technology which will transform the inspection of small bore tubing and hugely reduce hydrocarbon leaks.

Paragon, RAB Microfluidics and Specialist Safety Systems will graduate from the TechX Pioneer programme on Friday 21 September.

David Millar, TechX Director for the Oil & Gas Technology Centre, said:

“We’re delighted that three of our first Pioneers have been selected for this amazing opportunity. The Unlocking Ambition Challenge complements the significant funding, expert support and industry opportunities they are already receiving through the TechX Pioneer programme.

“The Pioneers are three of only four organisations from the North-East to be selected for the Unlocking Ambition Challenge. We are working with the likes of Elevator, ONE, OGIC and Scottish Enterprise to create an ecosystem that supports start-ups in the region. Tech start-ups looking for support should get in touch and see how we can help them develop.”

Rotimi Alabi, Founder and CEO, RAB Microfluidics, said:

“Unlocking Ambition is a great opportunity for RAB-Microfluidics to gain the valuable training that will help us shape our value proposition to engage customers and meet the needs of businesses across many industries. This opportunity builds on what we already have going in the TechX programme with the Oil & Gas Technology Centre where we are being supported to engage with and sell into the oil and gas and energy industries. Success will ensure we are able to contribute our part to the UK economy, creating new jobs and export revenue.”

Dave Phin, Founder and CEO, Paragon, said:

“We at Paragon are very excited to be part of the RSE’s first Unlocking Ambition scheme, and with the high standard of the other Fellows on the program, its easy to see why. We’ve put a lot into our technology and it’s always great to see potential recognised by a respected institution like the RSE. Programmes like these, and the TechX Pioneer programme, really showcase Scotland’s place as a vibrant start-up scene and a great place to do business. We’re looking forward to working closely in cooperation with Robert Gordon University and continuing our work with TechX to further develop both our business and our tech.”
