Project Summary

NZTC are working with SPEX and Total Energies UK to develop a technology that removes large sections of casing and any associated cement back to the formation to allow the installation of a permanent barrier for well P&A. The technique may also have applicability for cutting windows for sidetracks and slot recovery.

OUTCOMES

Prometheus has the potential to drastically reduce time taken to P&A a well by cutting casing in-situ in a single trip, avoiding the need to recover any casing which will significantly reduce cost and CO2 emissions.
