Flying Nodes
Project Summary
Autonomous Robotics Limited (ARL) are developing a fully autonomous self-propelled ocean bottom node, called a Flying Node, that has the potential to reduce the cost of acquiring Ocean Bottom Seismic (OBS) to a rate comparable to the latest towed streamer acquisition making it a viable option for use in exploration, wider use in 4D studies, and as an affordable monitoring technique for CCUS
OUTCOMES
Affordable seismic mapping will help unlock the full potential of the UKCS. Through its fast and efficient deployment and accurate positioning, offering savings up to 50%, Autonomous Robotics Flying Nodes will greatly reduce the cost of acquiring ocean bottom seismic data through the asset lifecycle and beyond.
In addition, Flying Nodes could play a key role in achieving net zero ambitions by reducing the cost of large scale, long term monitoring of CO2 injected and stored deep underground in subsurface formations.
