Net Zero R&D Programme

The Net Zero Technology Centre launched the Net Zero R&D Programme in April 2020 to help companies accelerate their technology development through collaboration with Scottish Universities.

Our Scottish Funding Partners (SFP) consist of The Scottish Government, The Scottish Funding Council and Scottish Enterprise, and aims to invest in the Net Zero R&D Programme’s portfolio of net zero projects across 2020-23. These will be early Technology Readiness Level (TRL) projects, where technology and innovation requirements of developer companies can be matched and delivered through the expertise and resource base within Scottish Higher Education Institutes.

All projects aim to accelerate understanding in areas where there are gaps in knowledge, seek industry contribution to strengthen the investment level, overall relevance, and impact of energy transition projects.

To date we have issued two call for ideas to address the innovation gaps in the low TRL range.

Call for ideas one

Status: Concluded process concluded, project delivery underway
Focus: Direct Air Carbon Capture (DAC) & Direct Seawater Carbon Capture (DSC).

Call for ideas two

Status: Call process concluded, project development underway
Focus: End-to-end Hydrogen Innovation; Optimising the Production of Blue Hydrogen, Hydrogen Transportation, Long-term Hydrogen Storage, and Hydrogen / Hydrogen Carrier Utilisation.
