SeaCure technology ​simplifies cementing, reducing rig time 

Industry context

Drilling operations can be lengthy and complex and involve some processes that are largely based on introducing redundancy because of uncertainties around, for example, cement placement. Drilling shoe tracks, also known as float joints, are an example. Their purpose is to ensure accurate cement placement at the bottom of a casing string. ​

​But they take time, especially on subsea wells, can introduce problems and increase risks to the operation. An alternative, where possible, is trying to place the cement in a casing annulus in a subsea environment using a ‘poor boy’ inner string stinger technique.

Project overview

​DeltaTek developed SeaCure, a stabbed-in inner stringcementing technology for subsea wells, eliminating shoetracks, optimizing cement placement and improvingreliability of pressure testing subsea casing strings. ​

​SeaCure took proven onshore stabbed-in inner string technology and combined it with slip-joint and rupture disc technology. This combination created a step change in subsea well cementing, removing the need for shoe tracks to be drilled and ensuring better cement placement.

​This project involved collaboration with a consortium including Microsoft and the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult. The project received funding from industry, OWGP, the Greater Lincolnshire LEP, and Innovate UK to deliver a 5G testbed​
