NZTC Annual Review 2023-24

We’ve had another year of strong performance, solidifying our position as a leading centre for net zero technologies.
The global shift to cleaner, more sustainable energy is more than a transition – it’s a transformation. Decarbonising high-emitting sectors and accelerating the deployment of clean technologies are urgent, complex challenges. Meeting them requires innovation, collaboration, and a relentless focus on emerging technologies.
Over the past year, NZTC has continued to push boundaries – delivering meaningful impact across the evolving energy landscape. With a refreshed leadership team and strategic focus, the organisation has deepened its core capabilities – working closely with industry, startups, academia, and global partners to accelerate technology development and deployment.
2023 marked a year of significant progress. NZTC ran three funding competitions to support transformative solutions – from digital and robotic technologies to advanced detection methods and next-generation electrolyser development. The TechX accelerator welcomed its sixth cohort, adding to a growing community of 53 pioneering alumni who have collectively raised over £106 million in equity to date.
In support of scaling innovation, NZTC announced its partnership in the Energy Incubation and Scale-up Hub (EISH) – a cornerstone of Aberdeen’s Energy Transition Zone, set to open in 2025. On the global stage, the organisation launched the Technology Without Borders initiative at COP28 – alongside the delivery of strategic advisory services through its expanding Technology Services offering.
Recognition of NZTC’s impact continues to grow, with four projects shortlisted at the 2024 Collaborate to Innovate and Offshore Achievement Awards – a testament to the commitment, expertise, and collaboration of its people and partners.
