H2CHP

H2CHP joined TechX Cohort 6 as a spinout from Durham and Newcastle University  developing fuel flexible engine generation power systems. Since completing the programme, the company has moved rapidly from technology demonstration toward commercial deployment, establishing itself as one of the most active hydrogen innovators emerging from TechX.

H2CHP is developing a software-controlled, fuel-flexible linear generator that is able to automatically adapt to a wide range of fuels, enabling highly efficient production of electricity and heat for commercial and industrial applications. It can be deployed across ports, manufacturing facilities, logistics hubs and other energy-intensive environments seeking to reduce emissions and transition away from fossil-fuel-based CHP. This flexibility allows H2CHP to support organisations exploring hydrogen adoption at different scales, from pilot installations to full operational integration.

Over the past two years post TechX, H2CHP has secured more than £4.5 million in combined grant and equity funding, including a £1.6 million CMDC4 award to support technology rollout and an investor partnership grant of £670k Their early investment rounds not only attracted backing from NZTC but Sustainable Ventures, TRICAPITAL, Syndicate Room, Blackfinch Ventures and Northstar Ventures reflecting strong confidence in the company’s commercial potential.

A major milestone in their journey has been their planned expansion into Aberdeen. By establishing a local office, H2CHP will position itself within Scotland’s growing hydrogen cluster and strengthen its connection to the region’s net-zero ambitions. Their collaboration with the Port of Aberdeen is helping shape future opportunities for hydrogen-powered energy systems across port operations and industrial settings.

The company has grown from two founders at application stage to a team of ten, with further expansion planned as commercial activity increases. H2CHP’s technology is now ready for real-world testing and the company is focused on pilot deployment, scale-up and securing strategic partnerships.

H2CHP’s progress reflects the momentum TechX aims to unlock – rapid technical validation, strong investor engagement and meaningful integration into the North East of Scotland’s energy transition ecosystem. With commercial deployment on the horizon and a major investment round underway, H2CHP is emerging as a promising hydrogen technology leader in the UK’s net-zero landscape.
